CARTOGRAPHIES
Artist in Residency, invited by the Goethe-Institut Algiers
This series explores my gaze of a stranger to the city, which is welcomed by dramatic clouds and seagulls circling in the sky next to the Grande Poste. How develops the gaze exploring decaying cinemas and reflecting on modernist architecture as places of vision and statements, between the points of reference of modernist architecture and decaying cinemas / places and spaces of the past and an announced future.
How does architecture shape the city, and fragments change the perception? The gaze and the take became cinematic. Moments
become stand stills of a narration, figures and gestures stories in itself. The act of walking as a way of reading the city between the images. „Because the city, that‘s fiction. The green, the sky, the forest - those are the novels. Water is a novel“ (Jean Luc Godard). A personal cartography of Alger between water and forests, the architecture and moments as textures, the streets as veins of a narration, the cadrage as a membran between fact and fiction.
